Protecting Our Environment

I have been an environmental champion throughout my public service career, receiving state-wide awards for my legislative work on oil spill prevention in 2015 and forest preservation in 2023.

I know the people of Kitsap County share conservation as a core value.

As your County Commissioner I will continue to work to:

  • Bring back salmon runs, make our lakes safe for swimming and boating, and adopt our county’s first tree retention ordinance for new developments

  • Improve and maintain our robust system of parks, open spaces, and trails

  • Grow and support the county’s small farms

  • Adopt a Comprehensive Plan that reduces future sprawl, boosts housing diversity and affordability, supports pollution prevention, and prepares our communities for climate changes.

What is a
County Commissioner?

Kitsap's three County Commissioners are both the executive and legislative branches of county government. Each represents a geographic district, but they are elected by all voters in all parts of the county. This is the same system as most non-metropoliitan counties in the state.

The Commissioners are responsible for:

  • Approving the county budget

  • Passing laws

  • Public roads and public works programs

  • Planning and zoning of unincorporated areas

  • Emergency preparedness

  • County parks and recreation lands

  • Representation on regional Boards like Kitsap Transit, Public Health, Housing Kitsap, and 911

  • Overseeing departments that are not the responsibility of other elected County officials

Investing in Health Care Infrastructure

Too many Kitsap residents, especially on Bainbridge Island and in the north end, don’t have the access we need to health care due to a shortage of providers and limited options.

To address this, as a member of the Kitsap Public Health Board and as your Commissioner I have been partnering with community leaders to:

  • Enlarge Olympic College’s health care training and education programs to rebuild our local workforce

  • Enhance partnerships with first responders to increase in-home treatment and emergency care for our most fragile neighbors

  • Expand access to behavioral health treatment and adding recovery programs and supportive housing throughout Kitsap County

Prioritizing Safety for Every One Of Us

Public safety encompasses so many facets of our community -from a well-functioning justice system to well-trained officers, from safer roads to reducing crime in the first place. If we tackle the challenges well, we can have both safer neighborhoods and stronger families.

As your County Commissioner I will:

  • Support law enforcement officers through competitive salaries and the deployment of new technologies that protect them and the public

  • Sustain successful re-entry programs at the jail and in our courts to reduce re-offending and improve lives

  • Reduce the number of people experiencing homelessness by connecting people with needed services, increasing shelter and recovery beds, and tackling the affordable housing crisis to help people avoid losing their homes in the first place.

Want To
Know More?

There are many more issues that are important to the people of Kitsap County. If you would like to know what Christine has done on these, or what her position is, please send us an email at info@electchristine.com. We value your voice and know we can work better if we work together.

Fixing Our Ferries

As a state legislator I brought millions in new funding to save the ferry system, for new boats and workforce training and retention. Now, as your County Commissioner I have and will continue to:

  • Form a new coalition of local government leaders and riders to add our voices to area legislators during the 2025 legislative session

  • Fight to bring back runs to Bremerton and Southworth

  • Secure state support of Kitsap Transit supplemental ferry service

Strengthening Our Local Economy

As your legislator I helped modernize West Sound Technical Skills Center and expand Olympic College and Western on the Peninsulas. I brought in state funding for our K-12 schools, preservation of affordable housing, and important congestion relief projects. Helping military families with job and school transitions was also a priority I shared with Derek Kilmer.

In 2022 I received the Hospitality Hero Award from the Greater Kitsap Chamber of Commerce, for listening to and championing small businesses during the pandemic.

As a County Commissioner, I have been and will continue this focus on our economic well-being. I will:

  • Continue deep reforms in the building permit process to help lower costs for small businesses and new homes.

  • Enhance transit service and improve transportation infrastructure, especially on our state highways.

  • Partner with other agencies on expanding broadband services to underserved neighborhoods

  • Continue to support military families and veterans, and to provide a talented workforce for projected expansion of work at the shipyard.
